 Admission to Westminster Academy

Students seeking admission should display above-average intelligence and academic achievement; and be capable of excelling in and gaining maximum benefit from a broad curriculum that challenges their potential. Candidates should exhibit age-appropriate social and emotional development and behavior that enables them to function effectively in a classroom environment. Admission is based on multiple criteria, including parent recommendation, teacher recommendation, a full-scale IQ score that indicates ability for success, an interview, and a classroom visit. Older students also need recent report cards that demonstrate high achievement. Although Westminster Academy strives to meet the needs of every child, we recognize that some students have needs beyond the scope of the school's mission.

Process

1. Agree with mission statement
2. Complete application form
3. Obtain teacher reference Form
4. Submit copy of grades and test scores from school last attended

Parents must ensure that by the time of the interview, they have delivered to Westminster a copy of the student’s most recent report card and standardized test scores. Upon the student’s acceptance, the school transcript form must be signed and delivered to the student's previous school.

Interview

The purpose of the interview is to discuss the following:
Motivation for applying for your child(ren) to attend Westminster Academy;
Ways you believe that Westminster can benefit your child(ren) and family;
Your awareness and acceptance of Westminser’s mission statement/ philosophy;
Your awareness and acceptance of Westminster’s discipline policy.

Acceptance

Acceptance of the applicant will be based on family interview, test scores, transcript grades, and the teacher reference form. A letter of acceptance and financial contract will be sent to the parent or guardian to be completed and returned promptly. The student’s state immunization form, birth certificate, and Social Security card must be delivered to Westminster by the first day of class. By September 1, students must be 4 years old for Pre-K entry, 5 years old for kindergarten entry, and 6 years old for first-grade entry. Students with September or October birthdays seeking early Pre-K admission may be invited to participate in an entrance examination on June 1 if spaces are available. If early Pre-K admission is granted, the student must repeat Pre-K in accordance with the kindergarten entry law regarding age requirements.

Finances

Each family must agree to and sign a financial contract and must pay at least one month's tuition before the student is officially enrolled.

Westminster Academy does not discriminate based on age, sex, race, religion, national origin, or physical disability. Westminster Academy adheres to age-enrollment requirements set by the state of Mississippi Board of Education and the Mississippi Private School Association.
