Admission
to Westminster Academy
Students seeking admission: a) should display above average intelligence
and academic achievement; and b) need a curriculum that is broad in scope
and depth of understanding to challenge their potential. Candidates should
exhibit age-appropriate social and emotional development, and behavior that
enables them to function effectively in a classroom environment. Admission
is based on multiple criteria, including parent recommendation, teacher
recommendation, a full scale IQ score which indicates ability for success,
an interview, and a classroom visit. Older students also need recent report
cards that demonstrate high achievement. While Westminster Academy strives
to meet the needs of each child, we recognize that some students will have
needs beyond the scope of the school's mission.
Process
- Agree with mission
statement
- Application Form
- Teacher Reference
Form
- Copy of grades and
test scores from school last attended
By the time of the interview, Westminster needs a copy of the most
recent report card and standardized test scores. Upon acceptance, the
school transcript form needs to be signed and given to the student's
previous school.
- Interview
The purpose of the interview is to answer these questions:
- Why are you making
application for your child(ren) to attend Westminster Academy?
- How do you think Westminster
can benefit your child(ren) and family?
- Have you read and
do you agree with our mission statement/ philosophy?
- Have you read and
do you agree with our discipline policy?
Acceptance
Acceptance
of the applicant will be based on family interview, test scores, transcript
grades, and the teacher reference form. A letter of acceptance and
financial contract will be sent to you to0 be completed and returned
promptly. The state immunization form, birth certificate, and social
security card must be received by the first day of class. By September 1st,
students must be 4 years old for Pre-K entry, 5 years old for Kindergarten
entry, and 6 years old for 1st Grade entry. Students with
September or October birthdays seeking early Pre-K admission may be invited
to participate in an entrance examination on June 1st if spaces
are available. If early Pre-K admission is granted, the student must repeat
Pre-K due to the Kindergarten entry law.
Finances
A
financial contract must be signed by each family and payment of at least
one month's tuition must be made before the student is officially enrolled.
Westminster Academy does not
discriminate based on age, sex, race, religion, national origin, or
physical disability. Westminster Academy adheres to age enrollment requirements
set by the State of Mississippi Board of Education and the Mississippi
Private School Association.

Fundraising
Commitment:
Parents are responsible for an annual fundraising commitment (Pre-K-7th: $750).
This can be met through direct payment, fundraising, or a combination of
both. Fundraising options include: Magazine Drive, Sally Foster sale,
Chocolate sale, and SCRIP. With SCRIP, parents purchase gift cards from
over 300 retailers (local, national, online) and a percentage of the
purchase is credited to their child's fundraising commitment. This
percentage ranges from 2% to 25%, depending on the retailer. Retailers
include: grocery, gasoline, clothing, home supply, office supply &
video stores; restaurants, etc.
